Who am I

Hi!

My name is Marco, I’m a freelance conference interpreter and translator, specialized in legal and technical fields.

I was born in the late 90s in Italy’s fashion capital city, Milan. However, since I was a kid, I was sure I would eventually become a wanderer. I was lucky enough to be born in a multicultural family, in which different languages and cultures would clash into each other every other day.

I started with my first study programs abroad in the UK during summer, later, I got what at that moment was called the high school diploma in foreign languages and literatures in Milan, in English, Spanish and French.

I remember that, when I was just 14 years old, I was already looking forward to going to see what there was beyond the sea. For this reason, after a short staying in a translators’ academy in Milan, I moved to Barcelona in 2017.

Since then, despite the pandemic, I have never stop moving, though Barcelona has turned into my home and headquarter. Here I graduated in Translation and Interpreting in Spanish, Catalan, French and Chinese at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). I spent my last four year of the bachelor’s at Universidad de Granada, as exchange student of “SICUE” program. After graduating, I successfully finished the Master’s Degree in Legal Translation and Court Interpreting in English and Spanish at the same university, and I was appointed official students’ delegate of the year.

Since 2022, I am a freelance conference interpreter and translator, and I offer my language services in Italian and Spanish (A), English and French (B), Catalan and Chinese (C). In my A and B languages, I specialized in legal-courtroom and technical fields.

My values: Knowledge, Empathy and Truth

Every successful company is founded on well-defined values. Here are the three pillars on which my work is based every day.

Knowledge

Translators/interpreters need to have an extremely broad cultural background. They cannot limit themselves to knowing less, and they know how to move in very diverse fields: from medicine to economics; from sports to literature, etc. This is why it is important to keep up to date with perseverance, enthusiasm and curiosity.

Empathy

Each client is, above all, a person and each person has different needs. Whether because of the type of assignment, the deadline (there is never enough time), or very specific details, it is important to establish clear and effective communication from the very beginning. Every written text and every word spoken is unique, just as every client is.

Truth

Translators/interpreters must always tell the truth. We make no value judgments whatsoever. We have to be true to what we translate, faithful to the original text or speech and consistent at all times. Truth has never been an easy task, but it is the main ethical duty of our profession, especially if, as in my case, you deal with the legal field.

The translator is a bridge between a culture of departure and a culture of arrival. Therefore, getting to know those cultures, empathizing with them and the people involved, and passing all the information from the source culture through the filter of truth so that it reaches the target culture is a task as complex as it is exciting.
